Walmart’s latest effort to grow more trees and produce flowers was welcomed by the town of Glenwood Springs.
In late April, the company will begin growing more trees at a number of stores across the US.
The first two stores will be in Glenwood Heights, Illinois and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Walmart announced in February that it will begin adding new trees in Glenbrook, Illinois, and Westville, New York.
It also announced a partnership with a nursery in Glen Brook, Illinois to grow additional trees.
At a recent meeting, Glenbrook mayor Tom Koeppl and Walmart vice president of sustainability and environmental initiatives, Matt McManus, spoke about the partnership.
“We will be partnering with the local nursery to grow trees in the Glenbrook area, and we will also be partnering in other communities across the country,” Koeppel said.
McManus said Walmart will be using a mixture of tree seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, and chemicals to grow the trees.
“We’re really excited about growing trees in our community and seeing that they’re a good source of green energy and a healthy alternative to chemicals,” he said.
“And we think they’ll be good for the community.”
Walmart has already planted hundreds of trees at several locations around the country.
On the west coast, Walmart is planting more trees in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland.
More trees are also expected to be planted in the coming weeks in the southern half of the United States, including Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Louisiana.
Walmart is also working to grow tree nurseries in the northern half of North America, including Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
One of the largest nurseries will be planted at the Glenwood Hills Walmart store in Glenmont, Illinois.
Another of Walmart’s plans is to expand its tree-growing capacity in California, where the company plans to plant more than 2,000 trees in its two California stores.
Walton Wood is the world’s largest tree-planting company.
Walmart has planted more than 10 million trees in more than 200 countries.
